Port of Centralia Executive Director Kyle Heaton expects construction of the new WinCo to begin at the end of April.

He made the announcement during a Port of Centralia meeting on Wednesday, April 3.

“We continue to wrap up down at Centralia Station, continue to assist WinCo in permitting. They’re at bid now,” Heaton said. “We expect they’ll be underway by the end of the month.”

Centralia Station is a Port of Centralia project developing a shopping center complex featuring WinCo — a 24 hours a day warehouse-style supermarket chain that sells bulk food items — as the anchor tenant. The project is being carried out in three phases, with the first two revolving around the construction of the South Yew Street extension and then Art Lehmann Drive, connecting South Yew Street to the Interstate 5 Mellen Street overpass.

Now that the first two phases are complete, WinCo will carry out the final phase — construction of the supermarket and shopping complex — once the permitting with the City of Centralia is complete.

An estimated opening date has not been announced.
