PORT OF CENTRALIA COMMISSIONERS SELECT JOEL CUMMINS
FOR VACANT DISTRICT 1 POSITION
Centralia, Wash. — The Port of Centralia Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Joel Cummins to the Port of Centralia Commission District 1 position at its August 21, 2026, regular meeting.
The position was previously held by Kyle Markstrom, whose resignation took effect June 12, 2026. Markstrom was appointed to the position in 2020 and reelected by public vote in 2021.
Following the appointment process, the Port Commission had previously nominated three candidates interviewed for the position: Thomas Davidson, Noel Putaansuu and Donna Rutledge. The public also nominated Joel Cummins before Cummins was ultimately selected for the position.
Port of Centralia Commission President Peter Lahmann said, “We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate in this process and put their name forward to serve our community. Joel Cummins brings valuable experience and perspective to the Port Commission, and we look forward to working together to continue advancing the Port’s mission and supporting economic development in our region.”
Founded in 1986, the Port of Centralia is one of the fastest-growing ports in Washington State, with three industrial and commercial parks supporting a diverse mix of businesses in manufacturing, logistics, retail and other industries. The Port’s more than 30 tenants include WinCo Foods, Sierra Pacific Industries, Walmart, UNFI and STIHL Northwest.
