Press Release: Fred Meyer Moves on from Centralia Station Project

Centralia, WASH. — After many years of recruitment, the Port of Centralia announced that negotiations for a new 175,000-sq.-ft. flagship Fred Meyer store have ended. Fred Meyer was to be the anchor tenant for the Centralia Station development project. It was to provide an estimated 200 jobs.

Kyle Heaton, Port of Centralia Executive Director, stated, “Due to a combination of uncertainty of infrastructure completion, market conditions and cost increase related to timing, we are regretful that we are unable to accommodate Fred Meyer as a tenant.”

The Port previously announced in March 2017 that its partnership with Powell Development Co.  for the development of the project accompanied an opportunity to have Fred Meyer as the anchor retail tenant at Centralia Station, but at the time also cautioned that the deal was not finalized.

Heaton continued, “We commend Fred Meyer and Powell Development for their efforts to bring such a great project that most in the community wanted to see. We look forward to working with Powell Development to see if there are other opportunities for retail development or if we should move in a different direction going forward. We will update the community through our website and social media accounts as we move closer to what that final decision will look like. We would like to thank Sen. John Braun, Rep. Orcutt and Rep. DeBolt for their assistance in securing infrastructure funding for the site. Whether the project moves forward as mixed-use or industrial, these funds will not go to waste in the Port’s efforts to create job opportunities and expand the tax base for our community.”
